Senior Subject Offerings
At Tweed Valley Adventist College, we recognise that each student has unique talents, learning styles, and future goals. We encourage families to speak with us about subject choices, pathways, and future opportunities, as we are always happy to help students find the option that best supports their interests and goals.
To support students in Years 11 and 12, we offer a compressed senior curriculum. This means that for elective subjects, students complete their Preliminary and HSC coursework within the one year the subject is delivered across their Stage 6 schooling. English and Mathematics are studied across both years, providing continuity and a strong foundation in these key learning areas.
We offer two flexible pathways to achieve a High School Certificate (HSC):
- ATAR Pathway: Students complete their HSC and receive an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), which supports university applications and further tertiary study.
- Non-ATAR Pathway: Students work towards their HSC through an alternative program that emphasises practical, real-world skills. This pathway allows students to gain valuable experience without sitting the traditional HSC examinations.
Both pathways are designed to prepare students for success in higher education, vocational training, or the workforce.
TVAC offers a range of elective subjects. Subject offerings vary from year to year and are determined by student interest and class viability. While we aim to provide a broad selection of subjects, not all subjects run every year or every second year. Courses will only be offered where there is sufficient student demand.
Elective subjects may include:
- Ancient History
- Biology
- Business Studies
- Chemistry
- Community and Family Studies
- Enterprise Computing
- Food Technology
- Geography
- Health and Movement Science
- Industrial Technology (Timber Products & Furniture)
- Legal Studies
- Modern History
- Music 1
- Studies of Religion II
- Visual Arts
Where a subject is unavailable at school, students may also have the opportunity to study a wider variety of subjects through Southern Cross School of Distance Education, depending on course availability and individual circumstances.
TVAC also offers the following VET courses in partnership with The Association of Independent Schools of NSW Limited (AISNSW) RTO No: 90413:
- VET Certificate II in Construction CPC20220 & Statement of Attainment (SOA) Certificate II in Construction CPC20120
- VET Certificate III in Business Services BSB30120
- VET Certificate III in Fitness SIS30321
- VET Hospitality Certificate II in Cookery SIT20421
VET courses require students to successfully complete all assessment tasks and mandatory work placement. Therefore, Tweed Valley Adventist College cannot guarantee that the full qualification will be awarded if these requirements are not met, and students may instead receive a Statement of Attainment.
